This is one of those rare items that I may only see once in my time repairing saxophones. The Buescher “tipped bell, bent neck” soprano was only made for a few years in the late 20’s and only in small quantities. This one has serial number 220666 and is from around 1926 or 27. It is a series IV horn with the G# roller. The silver plate nearly 100% with the only missing bit on the edge of the bell rim. The gold washed bell did not survive well through the years but is partly there. There was a slight bend in the lip of the bell, but it came out very nicely. Other than that, there was no damage, dents, dings or resolders that I have found. It arrived with all of the original pads and snaps intact. I did remove the spuds on the octave keys and palm keys (because they are a pain to deal with) but all of the snap in resonators are still there. The original pads were replaced with Pisoni pads. The sax was given and complete mechanical overhaul. It plays and feels brand like brand new with a wonderful vintage sound and very good intonation.
One small caveat to the buyer. Due to the bent neck you will need to have a mouthpiece not much longer than the original to be able to push it far enough onto the neck for tuning. My personal soprano piece is a “slant signature” Otto Link and it works nicely. The original mouthpiece is 61mm (about 2.4″).
It comes with the original case (that is also in excellent condition) and includes the original mouthpiece, cap and ligature!! Don’t miss out on this incredible piece of history and a wonderful playing sax!!
