At Blue Note Music, we specialize in woodwind repair and restoration.

From basic conditioning to full overhauls, we offer a range of services to keep your instruments in top playing condition.

Services Offered

Estimates and Appraisals:

Estimates for potential repair work will always be free, but formal appraisals of an instrument’s value (verbal or written) cost $50 per instrument.

Emergency Repair:

For musicians that need a very fast turn around or same day “drop everything” emergency repair we bill an additional $50 fee plus the normal hourly fee.

Play Condition:

Doing what is necessary to bring your instrument back to top playing condition.  All work is performed on an as-needed basis.  This can include but is not limited to: precision adjustment of key work, replacing worn/missing felt and cork where necessary, cleaning/reseating pads, adjusting springs, cleaning and oiling dirty mechanisms.

Minor Adjustment:

This is one level up from Play Condition for instruments that need just a little bit more attention. In addition to the play condition services this includes; replacing 3 or 4 pads, replacing the neck cork or one tenon cork, and minor dent removal.

Clean, Oil and Adjustment (C.O.A):

This is a service that is intended to clean and preserve the mechanics of the instrument when the pads are in good condition and it does not need a full overhaul. In addition to the services for a Minor Adjustment, this also includes; complete disassembly of the instrument and cleaning of the body and keywork, replacing springs where necessary, cleaning and reseating all pads where necessary, replacing up to 8 pads, replacing tenon/tuning corks, oiling the body of wood instruments (Sweet Almond Oil), repairing damaged tone holes, refitting the neck tenon, and hand polishing flutes, and fresh oil is applied to all mechanisms.

Overhaul:

This is for instruments that need the works. Overhauled instruments will play as well, if not better, than they did when they were new. In addition to the extensive services listed above this also includes; replacing all pads, leveling tone holes where necessary, precision key fitting, and re-soldering where necessary.

Pricing

All services are billed at a rate of $100 per hour. Most of the prices listed below are guidelines. The actual invoice may vary. Professional and vintage instruments will cost more than the prices listed below. Polishing of silver saxophones will also cost extra.
