Buffet R13 “Golden Era” Bb Clarinet

Buffet R13 “Golden Era” Bb Clarinet
Here we have a Buffet R13 Bb clarinet from 1974. This is near the end of what is considered to be the 'golden era' of Buffet clarinets. The 'golden era' from the mid '60's until the mid to late 70's is so named because it is the period when Buffet was naturally aging the grenadilla wood for 20 years to ensure only the finest wood was used. This one has serial number 151057. The nickel silver key work is in excellent condition and shows no signs of wear. There was one small crack at the top of the lower joint that has been repaired but otherwise the grenadilla wood is in excellent condition. The pads appear to be roo skin (leather) and still have a lot of life in them. The clarinet plays beautifully with a gorgeous sound. It comes with a non-original case and there is no mouthpiece but I can include one with the sale. Let me know if you want to try this one out!

I hope I look this good when I’m 94.

I know vintage instruments aren't everyone's cup of tea, but you have to admit that this one is pretty cool. It's an almost pristine 1924 King Saxello. The original silver plate is nearly 100%. The most amazing part is that that case is in the same great condition, and it still has the original mouthpiece, lyre and cute little V stand. It's nice to see it was so well taken care of for all these years. Now that it's in top playing condition it just needs to find a new home.

Ok, I’m a neat freak

Fastidious. Persnickety. Meticulous. Yeah, I've been called all those things, but there's nothing I like better than a well organized shop.

I love these new pads!!

I love these new pads!!
These turned out better than I had hoped!  Here is a picture of some Pisoni pads on the Mark VI in the previous post.  I decided to try Matt Stohrer's technique of giving the pads a light coat of lacquer before installation.  It is absolutely brilliant!! They seal extremely well, the leather is still supple, they are waterproof (yes I tested) and there is no sticking at all.  Not even a little bit.  Thank you Matt!!!!
